In this talk we review recent developments in the study of strongly coupled quantum theories at large quantum number. For the case of global charge quantum numbers in strongly coupled conformal field theories, quantities such as operator dimensions and OPE coefficients for charged operators can be calculated analytically as an asymptotic series, with the leading terms being controlled by a small number of unknown coefficients in a large-charge effective Lagrangian. In cases where we can compare with other methods, such as Monte Carlo simulation, conformal bootstrap, or supersymmetric localization, we find remarkably precise agreement, at the one percent level or better. We will discuss future directions and important open problems.
